Jennifer Good grief I love the Thomas Canty covers for these.

message 2: by Jaime (new)

Jaime Jennifer,

I just started reading this series and it was the covers that really attracted me to them! They are beautiful!!

message 3: by Melanti (new)

Melanti Deleted some self-published/indie published children's fairy tale books that are not part of Windling's series.

message 4: by Scott (new)

Scott The Stone of Destiny should not be on here.

message 5: by Melanti (new)

Melanti Agreed and removed.

message 6: by Kris (new)

Kris There was a series of volumes of short stories that were done with the same premise. (Neil Gaiman, I think, contributed to the series.) Does anyone know a) if they are part of the same series; and b) if there's a list similar to this one for that series?

message 7: by Melanti (new)

Melanti Are you talking about the anthologies co-edited by Terri Windling and Ellen Datlow?

I don't believe that series is officially related, but they were certainly created around the same time. If I remember the story correctly, when Windling was fishing around for authors who'd be interested in writing for this series, some authors wanted to write short stories rather than novels and those ended up in the anthologies.

There's not a listopia for those anthologies as far as I know, (feel free to create one!) but there is a series page if you want to see a listing of them.

message 8: by Kris (new)

Kris Melanti, that is exactly the series I was thinking of! Thank you! I knew that Windling was involved with both, but didn't realize the anthology series came about because of authors' preference for short stories.
Dunno if I'll create a listopia for these - I'm not as big into voting for favorites as I am into making lists!

Susan Barchard Where is Thomas the Rhymer by Ellen Kushner - it is part of this series! And it's my favorite ever Fairy book!

Melanti This list matches the books listed as part of the series on Terri Windling's website. It doesn't list Thomas the Rhymer, though I agree that's certainly a cover by Canty done in a similar style to these.

I just double checked Kushner's website and her info page for the book doesn't mention this series either, nor does the cover display the fact that it's part of the series though the other books in the series do.

It could be that Tor picked up the paperback rights and arranged the Canty cover art to make it blend in with the Windlings' books? Someone would would probably have to ask Kushner the story behind it.

message 11: by Scott (new)

Scott Funny, I always considered that as part of the series too, but I just looked at my copy and there is no such indication, no intro by Terri.

message 12: by William (new)

William Adams It kind of kills me that Drink Down the Moon (Jack of Kinrowan #2) was not published in this style.

Agree Thomas the Rhymer should be counted as a part of this as well.

Not seeing the series list for the anthologies --- there is a Kindle list on Amazon --- I have one in hardcover, guess I need five more to complete my collection.
