I'm not entirely sure. I think the Bookseller magazine is sponsoring and they chose the shortlist.

Clare O'Beara Thanks. That makes it likely that you have to be part of the old boys' network. I'm sure there are some great works on the list - however it's just impossible for independent authors to get recognition.
