"Not one of my favorites, but it's a good book. I don't remember if it was assigned for class in two different years, or if I'd read it before it was assigned and then read it again for the class."

The Chronicles of Narnia (The Chronicles of Narnia, #1-7)
by
"I've read each story at least twice, and most of them three or four times. I have a paperback copy of the whole series that is falling apart, and I want to replace it with a hardcover soon (B&N has a very pretty edition), but I probably won't ever get rid of it. This is because it reminds me of the summer that my mom's dad had open heart surgery and took much longer than expected to recover, so we spent most of the summer at their house. I can't remember how old I was, but basically I was almost the oldest one among my siblings and cousins, and I didn't think the younger ones really understood how serious it was (most of them were not allowed in the ICU; I wasn't technically old enough either, but they let me see him anyway). We spent much of the time by ourselves, supervised by one cousin about five years older than me (the age difference seemed much bigger then), and we quickly ran out of things to occupy our evenings. So, I started reading to them. I'm not sure how many we got through, but it was at least three books. They were all old enough to read on their own, but they liked the stories, and it was a good way to take my mind off other things."

by
"I have read/listened to this book so many times that I have much of the first chapter memorized (and a few other parts as well). I also got it in Spanish, with the intention of learning new words, but I found that I was just skipping words I didn't know because I knew the story well enough without them. I'll try again eventually."

Tuck Everlasting
by
"Assigned to read in fifth grade, but I think I had read it before then. It was one of my favorites, and I reread it when the movie came out. I don't think I have a copy anymore; the one I was using for class ended up as a rainbow of color-coded notes, and I passed it on to my siblings when they had to read it. That was the most thorough I have ever been with a book assigned for class."

Dinotopia: A Land Apart from Time
by
"This was given to me by my grandma. I can't remember if she "knows someone" who knows James Gurney, or if she met him at a signing or something? Whatever it was, she was briefly obsessed with him and his art. I love the world he created, and I'm slowly collecting all of the spin-off things (two TV shows, a series of short chapter books, a few longer books). This one is definitely the best, though."

"I think I've only read this twice all the way through. I'm not sure why... I think I found the philosophical questions a bit more interesting than the plot, so I spend more time thinking about it than reading it. Also I'm not sure I like the way Lyra develops as a character. Due for another reread."
