Softwear Loved A Thousand Splendid Suns. Couldn't put it down.

Mir This book is beautifully written. Such a sad and heartbreaking book..
And what about American Gods?

message 3: by Softwear (new)

Softwear I have never read it - should I?

message 4: by Mir (new)

Mir I have read it two times and I still want to read it someday. Does that answer the question?:)

message 5: by Softwear (new)

Softwear Okay ha ha. I'll think about it. My daughter read Coraline and of course I enjoyed the movie.

message 6: by Mir (new)

Mir I have recently read Coraline and enjoyed it too. How old is your daughter, may I know?

message 7: by Softwear (new)

Softwear She is 10. When I saw the ads for the movie Coraline I KNEW I had to see the movie. It's a great movie for us, as it explores the sometimes messy mother-daughter relationship.

Mir I can understand what you mean.
Has she read "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory " or anything by Shel Silverstein?

message 9: by Softwear (new)

Softwear Mmm. No. I don't think so. She has read some Roald Dahl (and of course we've seen the version of "Charlie" with Johnny Depp).

message 10: by Mir (new)

Mir Please introduce Shel Silverstein to her.
Where the Sidewalk Ends and The Giving Tree are his two famous books.

message 11: by Softwear (new)

Softwear I'm pretty sure her school has a copy of "Sidewalk" - I'll encourage her to look for it in the school library. Thank you.

Mir The poems are very funny. I hope she likes it.

And by the way, I have noticed that in goodreads we generally forget to ask the most important question of all-- how are you?

message 13: by Softwear (new)

Softwear Oh I'm great, thanks. It's a beautiful, cool Monday morning here in Canada.

We'd been having a spate of very humid weather, and now we're getting a break from that.

message 14: by Mir (new)

Mir Very glad to know that. India now is way too hot and to add more heat, today is the election day.

message 15: by Softwear (new)

Softwear Oh really? I'd love to read up on it. Which newspaper would you recommend?
