Outlander (Outlander, #1)

"Hands down the best book I've ever picked up. Diana Gabaldon transcends genres, space and time to immerse us fully into a time travel/adventure/love story that works in every way. The characters are well-developed and compelling--in fact, you will probably find yourself obsessed with them and hungering for the next book. I've been reading this series for more than 20 years, and it never gets old. The 8th book in the series comes out in March of 2014 and a television series is in production for next year as well. A must read.

A Discovery of Witches (All Souls, #1)

"This was a promising first book. I love the main character as a reluctant witch who has tried to escape her family history and has ignored her gifts and instead invested herself in academia. But she learns you can't fight who you are, and eschewing all of the training her family sought to give her is now backfiring and causing serious repercussions because she can't harness her power.

This is also a story involving vampires--if you like that sort of thing. I generally don't--but the vampire that Diana falls for is more my speed... He's an academic and a fine wine-connoisseur...and he's in his mid-30s...not forever stuck in jailbait years like some vampires of fiction. :P " See Review |

Shadow of Night (All Souls, #2)

"This book is the second in the All Souls Trilogy. I liked the first book, but this one fell short of my expectations. In this installment, Diana seeks to harness her time walking abilities, but I found it dull and boring. Not much happened. When employing time travel, there is so much opportunity for using interesting characters and happenings from the past, but I found this book fell well short of doing that. I was pretty disappointed with it. There was so many places the story could have gone. It fell flat. Not sure I'll bother with the third book. A big yawn.
