The Moment
by
"I didn't know where the story was going to at first, but once I got into it I found it a great read. After a somewhat confusing beginning with too much happening too fast; i.e. the middle age narrator's divorce and skiing accident, quick recovery and return home to contemplate his life, I became engaged in the flashback to 1980's Berlin. To me this is where the richness of the tale began. And I was taken to a world I've known very little of in my life. It being the world of West Berlin's decadence juxtaposed against the harsher setting of East Berlin's socialist republic. The narrator, himself, falls in love with an émigré from the East and only later learns of her duplicity. It's a fetching tale, where one learns much about The Wall and what it must have been like for those born and raised behind it."
