Hubert Selby Jr. really knows how to write human beings. Not victims of circumstance. Not scummy bottom feeders. Humans. He doesn't make excuses for them, nor does he vilify them. That is how I sympathize with them. With Requiem, I basically walked around for miles in these characters shoes. I felt what they were going through. That's probably why this book affected me so much emotionally." See Review |
