Have you read it then? I just bought it and I'm really excited to get to it. Was it good?

Aloha Sarah:I loved it. I have to confess: I went to a Catholic boys boarding school as a kid, where we learned little science took lots of liberal arts courses in history, philosophy geography and foreign languages (I had 4 years of Latin, 2 of Greek and 2 of French). The story takes place in an historical era when Latin was just giving way to local romance languages (Italian, French, Spanish. I was fascinated by the polyglot speech featured in the novel, and enjoyed trying to puzzle out their translations. So I had a special reason to like the novel. But it was a bestseller, so it obviously offered a lost of "hooks" for different readers. Based on your love of history and linguistics, I'd say you're going to really love it. :)
Cheers,
Mike
That's a completely awesome skill set. I've taken French and Spanish and can usually parse out what is being said in Italian, but Latin isn't so easy to figure out. I've been thinking of buying the book The Key to The Name of the Rose: Including Translations of All Non-English Passages because it has the translations of the Latin phrases. I'm very excited about this one because it really does perfectly fit my interests. I'm glad to hear you liked it. :)Sarah
