The War Against Cliché: Essays and Reviews 1971-2000
by
"Written by a man who obviously cared deeply enough about letters.

rated it 5 stars
Later collections are a bit softer, more accommodating (maybe because we have gotten dumber and less patient as readers?) but this here is the perfect balance of ferocity and luminosity. Like eavesdropping on something sacred and profane." See Review |

Night Train
by
"Many 'literary' authors turn to pulp for sustenance, and it is always illuminating to see how their idea of genre informs choices.
Devanshu
rated it 5 stars
This is a hardboiled detective story that spirals into something far more sinister. Amis has written more polished books but none (I suspect) that could be read in one (or two) sitting(s) - and the last page leaves us stranded in the mind of his narrator, minus any clearly marked Exit. Help." See Review |

Other People

"a lone woman adrift in London with her handle on reality gone all wobbly. Sequestered in a flat so defamiliarized that it could be on the surface of Mars. The horror, the horror.
