I dropped the 'set in' - none of my other country lists had it, apart from the last two (Luxembourg and Tunisia). Thanks for that editing!!! :)
Oh thanks - no rush at all! I just HATE it when I find a book set in a rarer country (fiction-wise), and there's no specific list for that country! :SI'm sorry so much of the books are revolution/war-based. :S Also a bit annoying, I'm sure, if you're Tunisian. Same deal with German books - like 90% WWII. Okay, maybe 80%, and 10% WWI! XD Though I get why this is topical and why people want to write about it. But imagine - every country is so much more than its wars...
Oh yes, it's a challenge to find anything in Germany that isn't about Nazi Germany.Tunisia seems relatively little known. Gosh, I'm rather ignorant myself. North Africa, formerly colonized by France. All I really know is that some of WWII was fought there. It also turns out that Carthage is in modern-day Tunisia.
It's amazing how countries which were not Commonwealth (or English speaking) are so little known by English speakers... most of French-speaking Africa is unknown to me, and I can say the same about most Portuguese- and Dutch-colonized countries. I find it interesting that your knowledge and view of the world is linked to your native tongue! :)
Yes! And people from the former French colonies often never made their way to the US. I don't believe I've ever met a Tunisian.Maybe the exception to that is Haiti, but they are mostly in Florida.
Few more!
Ali
The Cup
Salammbô
The Immoralist (partially)
The Lieutenants
An Army at Dawn
Healer of Carthage
Blessing of the Gods
The Battle Is the Pay-Off
The Magical Diaries of Aleister Crowley: Tunisia, 1923
Thanks so much! I added Carthage to the description, too. Yes, many more of the French-speaking world comes to Canada, but not the West Coast, generally (usually Quebec and New Brunswick, and parts of Ontario and Manitoba). But still - there are peoples I meet here (because French-speaking Switzerland, and in France) that I never came across in N. America (Algerians, for example!). :) Kind of neat - makes the small world seem bigger.
Do you feel like working some Librarian magic for the sake of a Tunisian title? I found this - author (she's also a translator) has a page already:

No prob!I added a Goodreads record for Child of the Coral Coast. Don't think we're allowed to take cover images from Biblio.com though.
Now that you mention it, I don't believe I've ever met anyone from Algeria either. Or anyone from North Africa in general. Maybe a few Egyptians, possibly.
No, I do remember that from the Librarian quiz - pretty much only Amazon, right? I don't know if I'll ever get around to trying for that position again.... depends how fed up I get over not being able to ADD books! Thanks very much! :)
There's another one for Ethiopia, but I haven't looked to see if that list is needing help or not:Front cover image for Child of the Rift Valley

Amazon mostly, and I believe Abebooks is fine.I admit to taking a couple covers once or twice from "forbidden" sites, but I don't make a habit of it. I don't want to lose my librarian powers.
They used to give out librarianships much more easily. I think too many librarians were abusing their powers, so they got more stringent with it.
I think it's probably a good idea to make it difficult. It seems very difficult, now - test questions aren't taken solely from the Librarian Manual any more, and some of them are poorly (hastily?) written. I took the test twice (with some interval inbetween), and made notes and corrections to all my incorrect responses... by the second time I took the test, I got the feeling that I'd have to invest a LOT of time to get in, and even then I'd have to get a bit lucky. Some of the answers seemed, to me, to violate what was said in the Librarian's Manual anyway, so I felt really put off. :(
I tried using the Librarian's Group but was disenchanted with it pretty quickly.Ah well. I'll try not to bother you too much with requests! :)
That sounds like a pain. There was no test required when I applied!I hate the Librarians group, very unhelpful. Don't mind helping out with adding books. Anytime! :)
Looks like Child of the Rift Valley was already on GR, but some details were messed up, so I corrected those. Appears that Patricia Crampton is the translator. Freddy Tondeur had a whole series of these from different countries.
Oh, thanks so much, Rainbowheart! I'll take a look at Freddy's page directly - just working through Patricia Crampton's books and adding those into lists ;)
You're welcome!And I'll look for more Tunisians later. :)
Also, if you have room/time, I do have some overflow for the nuns list.

There are just so many nuns out there, lol.

Talismano
The Italian
Escape by Sea
Benny and Omar
A Taste for Terror
The African Quest
Among the Faithful
The Deaf-Mute Boy
The Tremor of Forgery
The Windows of Elissa
The Influence Peddlers
The Young Carthaginian
A Marriage in Four Seasons (partially)
Why the Jackal Won't Speak to the Hedgehog

Might I suggest changing the title to "Books Set in Tunisia" so it matches all the other "Books Set in...." lists on GR?
