Pride and Prejudice

"Pride and Prejudice is a quintessential part of English literature as we know it today. It helped to establish the format of the know ubiqutous novel format, addressed key feminist issues, through its strong protagonist and provides a valuable critique of societal values of the time. It is acclaimed by critics and the general public alike, written in beautifully stylistic prose, suitable for analysis in an English lesson, whilst remaining light and sparking. Vivid yet easy to read, the simple but appealing plot-line is also bound to keep students interested. It is a win both at the desk and the black (interactive white) board."

The Tenant of Wildfell Hall

by
4.03 avg rating — 130,566 ratings
"Often overshadowed by her sisters Charlotte and Emily, firmly established in so many curriculae, Anne Bronte truly shows herself to be a fearless authoress, with an ability to create a compelling narrative as well as her sisters, and feminist ideology beyond her time. Helen Graham is a little dull, perhaps, but her narrative is hugely emotional- and bound to make the core of discussions. Like all the books on this genre, the prose is light yet detailed, bringing across her message beautifully without boring readers (not even tired secondary-schoolers eager to get back to twilight)."
