Kim McGee what about Book Scavenger? It is similar to the Island of Dr. Libris but has a bit more plausible plot.

Jenni Thanks for putting 5 to 1 on my radar. It is a very interesting premise and a quick read. I did not love the deliberate made for a sequel ending, though. Also, I think the author is Canadian and might not be eligible for the Newbery.

Alas, I fear you are right. A couple of these slip past me every year. Knopf publishing is in the United States but it appears that she lives in Canada. Making her ineligible for the Newbery.

I have removed 5 to 1 from the list and bookshelf. Although, I have heard it's a wonderful book.
