Corbyal Ashclaw I love getting to know people by reading their writing. There is always a little of the person buried in the text.

So true!

Kellyn Roth YES!!!

message 4: by Nathan (new)

Nathan Bush I like reading others work and reviewing it but I haven't had much time to do that since joining GR. You can learn a little bit about a person by what and how they write.

message 5: by Katelyn (new)

Katelyn Snell I love reviewing books! I've had the honor of proof reading and reviewing some friends' books that they've self-published.

Thats interesting Corbyal.
Love reading a bit of others work and observing the kind of writing that sells. Don't know if that makes sense, but sometimes in the beginning of a book I can tell or guess why it sells good.

message 7: by ❄Elsa Frost❄ (last edited Nov 02, 2016 06:16AM) (new)

❄Elsa Frost❄ My reviews are typically critiques: What the book has and what the book lacks, what could be improved and what was best about the book, etc. I do think that the best reviews are critiques of the work--otherwise, is that truly a review? After all, anyway can read the synopsis on the info page of the book... a review literally means "a formal assessment or examination of something with the possibility or intention of instituting change if necessary." So when I actually write a review, I like to keep it like that: a critique.

message 8: by Trevor (new)

Trevor Patterson Honestly, if I know it's a new author I like to give them reviews to get them recognition. My reviews are honest, but I stay on the constructive side as much as I possibly can.

Tiffany Murphy Corbyal wrote: "I love getting to know people by reading their writing. There is always a little of the person buried in the text."

So very true! I love that!

message 10: by Glen (new)

Glen Robinson I love reviewing a book that I would read anyway. I don't like feeling obligated to read and review books that aren't books I would normally read.

message 11: by Hyacinth (new)

Hyacinth I enjoy writing about what I read.

message 12: by Debbie (new)

Debbie Chatley I love reading books to review. It gives me exposure to a wide variety of book types and authors.

message 13: by Melissa (new)

Melissa Henderson I enjoy reading and reviewing books. I appreciate when people read and review my books.

message 14: by Mary (new)

Mary Albers Felkins Great poll. Glad you asked. Made me stop and ponder a bit.

message 15: by A.K. (new)

A.K. Frailey A review is as much an art form as writing a novel. Truth should be revealed as the reader sees it, but humanity and kindness should also be maintained, even when the result may have faults. Everyone has a voice, and though it may be imperfect, the whole human production is best when we share ourselves lovingly.

message 16: by D. (new)

D. Miller I particularly enjoy reviewing books in genres in which I would like to write but with which I'm not all that familiar. Time is in short supply, so reading another good writer's book can be a learning experience.

message 17: by Kristianne (new)

Kristianne I like reviewing books, but I also don't want to waste my time with books I'm not sure I'll like. So I prefer to stick to books other people recommend or books by authors I know. But if the synopsis of a book really stands out to me, then I usually take a chance on it!

message 18: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer I love reviewing books, especially for new authors, but I try to pick out the positive and some minor complaints. Then I usually email the author with some kind constructive criticism (if I have any to share - Some books are just that good! 😉) so I don't seem like I'm publically bashing their book and discouraging others from reading it. There have been a couple of books though, that were just so bad I had to mark them as DNF and just didn't post a public review. 😞

message 19: by James (new)

James Collins Book sales and rankings are based on reviews. Sadly, most readers never leave one. I have made a point to always leave a review when I read a book. As an author, I appreciate it when others do the same.

A.M. Revere Where would I post my review for my friend's Christian non-fiction book here in the group? P.S. Thanks for inviting me here!

message 22: by Ed (new)

Ed Hi Like both reading the books and writing the review. But, it is time consuming so it takes me a little while to get to it. Sorry for the my delay in following up on all of the requested reviews.

God Bless,

Ed

message 23: by Deryn (new)

Deryn Tang I enjoy reading other people's books and leaving them a review. I believe in helping one another and for new authors, this is a valuable service you can offer them. It helps them to grow and it helps you to grow as you analyze what is working and what is not working.

message 24: by Bonnie (new)

Bonnie DeMoss Yes I do enjoy reviewing. It's a good thing, since I'm a blogger/reviewer (;

message 25: by Elaine (new)

Elaine Sequeira I try to find time to review. Love the idea of helping a total stranger along the way. We're all on a journey.

message 26: by Emmanuel (new)

Emmanuel Jeremiah Yes, I enjoy reviewing Christian books. I am looking forward to review more books. I hope my books will also get review as I eagerly looking forward to review other people's work. This is my email emmajerry2015@gmail.com I would like to review any Christian nonfiction works.

message 27: by J.L. (new)

J.L. Pattison I wouldn’t say it’s completely enjoyable, but more of a responsibility. I think if you read a book, you owe it to the author to leave an honest review (good or bad), especially for indie authors.

I just wish all those who’ve read my books felt the same way. For me, getting reviews for my own books is like pulling teeth, and I don’t know what more I can do to generate additional reviews. Even giving out free digital and paperback copies hasn’t worked.

Ella あいみ M. "I enjoy it in my head, but then I write it and it seems all wrong."

Yeah, I so get that.

Overall, I see writing reviews more as a responsibility rather than recreation, but I do enjoy it sometimes. It really depends on the book. 😄
