Lautaro Lobo I think that Timeline would be a nice monthly read, is one of those action-packed sci-fi novels (or at least that says the back cover). It would be my first Michael Crichton book btw

Both "Nightfall" and "There is no Darkness" seem to be unavailable in audio. If someone else can find them, let us know.

The other two are available in all formats.

Leo Its very quiet here, is there a mailing scheduled to tell people to vote, or can I throw Nightfall in the back of my car when we leave for summer holiday?

Three weeks is about the longest poll for BOTM I've ever seen. We still have a week to go on this. I would not be purchasing my copy of Nightfall yet.

message 7: by Jim (new)

Jim I'm not sure why we vote for 3 weeks, but we'll be sending out a link to the poll in the first of the month broadcast message & folks have until 6July. Some may change their vote. Only 2 of us have voted for 'Darkness', so we might throw our votes to another book if we'd rather not read 'Nightfall'.

message 8: by Leo (new)

Leo Ok that link will bring in some 20 votes then, I'll wait packing. Or maybe pack all four in case we end up in quarantine.

That Nightfall nomination is a strange one for me. I've read Asimov's short story version in The Science Fiction Hall of Fame, Volume One, 1929-1964, edited oddly enough by Silverberg. Asimov's story was rated in 1968 by the SFWA (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nightfa... ) as the best SF short story to be published before the Nebulas began in 1965. I don't know about that. I just remember not being all that thrilled with the story when I read it at 13 or 14 years of age.

But Silverberg took the story and made it into a novel in 1990. Maybe it's more worth reading in that form. I guess Nightfall would be my second choice if my first looks like it won't make it.

I really liked the original short story & see no reason to read a windier version of it, so it's definitely not one of my picks.

John Ackerman There are hidden gems out there of Silverberg. He captured alien culture.
