More advance notice of categories? Sometimes the wait for a library hold is several weeks or months.

This is a great point Audrey! I think last year every team chose a category and they were revealed a few days early but I get how that could be not enough. I could definitely keep that in mind and reveal some tasks whilst everyone is still signing up so it would be like a month before.

Maybe the categories could have a genre attached so even if all tasks aren't revealed the genres could be. Maybe one category is called wild card with various genres. Like a category for fantasy, contemporary, mystery etc.
This would help with placing holds as well.

I think 2 years ago the categories used to be genre-based but recently I’ve been keeping it more thematic because I thought it was more fun to see how the tasks link to the category titles. Also I’m not sure there are 20 genres that I could come up with but I could certainly try😂
Would people prefer that each category is one genre only or do we prefer a topic that all the tasks link to in some way?
I like the wild card idea a lot and that would be a task worth more points maybe

Hey guys how’s this idea for what I call title points:
Each category always has a title like: Home is Where the Heart Is
If a book read for a task in that category also has the word in bold from the category title in the book title then you get a bonus 5 points.
Each category title would only have one word in bold or maybe in a different colour like red.
I quite like this idea so I might actually implement this

What about just five categories are genre based and we know them in advance and the rest are what you normally do?
Some readathon have pages, maybe we can see average pages or have a special trophy for number of pages read? Also Yes!! I'm taking part in Orillium too on Discord and its also duing this month!!
I can't wait and fingers crossed to be captain agin!

This is definitely something for me to think about. I've started making some of the tasks and am finding it really difficult to stick to the genres lol. I just find it means the tasks are a bit generic and boring whereas I think what we all like about this challenge is that the tasks are weirdly random. But I'm still going to give it a go and we'll see...

Yes! This is actually going to be a thing and I think it will be a fun addition👏🏻

This is a cool idea, we already have total pages per team on each team spreadsheet and total pages overall on the points spreadsheet, but it could be cool to add extra extra page points. 5 extra page points for every 1000 pages read? I love giving extra points😂
And yes, the team with the most pages should get acknowledgment at the end! I will try to remember that.
Also, I would love to have you as a team captain again, you're a great captain so that would be really nice, thanks so much!😊

But I'm looking forward to connecting with you all again during this year's Reading Challenge!
Please share any cool ideas you may have for what we can add to the Reading Challenge!
For last year's twist we had the golden task points. The year before we had increased points for categories finished by more team members, and the year before that we had page points and increased points for categories finished by less team members.
Don't be afraid to get creative with suggestions, I'm open to literally anything!
