Poll

All right, I promise I'll leave y'all alone after this and won't become one of those annoying pollers. First and last time I do a poll.

Do you read fairy tale retelliings? And would you be willing to answer a private poll about it for a project of mine?

Yes, I read retellings and would like to answer.

No, I don't read retellings.

I want to read the fine print and get a lawyer before I answer either way.

message 1: by Melissa (new)

Melissa McShane I used to read retellings, but I haven't for several years. Is that the kind of experience you're looking for, or not?

message 2: by Liam (new)

Liam Ostermann In fairness I have read retellings but I don't read retellings as if I particularly sought them out. I also took fairtales to also include retellings of myths - like those of Greece and Rome - on that basis perhaps you can let me know if I should withdraw my vote! - all my best Liam

message 3: by Anna 🎥 (new)

Anna 🎥 I read myths retellings is not fairy tale ones. What should I answer? 🤔🤔

message 4: by Mela (new)

Mela I read, although rather rarely. But if I can, I will help you with your project. This or any other one.

message 5: by Paul (new)

Paul Dembina Apart from Angela Carter's feminist reworkings I don't read them either

message 6: by Patricia (new)

Patricia There's retellings I enjoy but I fear they are few and far in between. Curious about this!

message 7: by Beth (new)

Beth I answered no, but I'm cheering you on and am very interested in seeing this project come together. (You knew this already, just making my sentiments public.)

message 8: by Ana (new)

Ana Santos If the blurb is catchy enough, I'll read a hand cream package label!😁
I love a good retelling!

message 9: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Vegan I've read a few and enjoyed them but they're not a common genre for me to read and they're not my favorite, nor are traditional fairy tales. My guess is I wouldn't have enough useful things to say to help you, Marquise.

Goatllama Mela wrote: "I read, although rather rarely. But if I can, I will help you with your project. This or any other one."

Same boat. How experienced of readers art thou looking for?

message 11: by lethe (new)

lethe I occasionally read them.

message 12: by JULIA (new)

JULIA I will fess up. Love them.

message 13: by Betsie (new)

Betsie Ann I read them, but they're rarely in my top 5 genres, just because I don't seek them out that much. But I always enjoy them when I do.

jrendocrine at least reading is good Sure I read them. Happy to answer questions.

message 15: by Emiliya (new)

Emiliya Bozhilova I read retelling very rarely and even then I am not sure if this is retelling or plain fantasy.

message 16: by CB (new)

CB Yes I enjoy reading fairy tale retellings.

message 17: by Meredith (new)

Meredith L. I love fairy tale retellings, although it's becoming harder for me to find ones in accessible formats.

message 18: by Karina (new)

Karina I don’t mind reading retellings but have never actually read one I enjoyed 100 so I don’t seek them out because I’m always disappointed.

Orinoco Womble (tidy bag and all) Retellings as such don't interest me one smitch. If I pick up a well written book and halfway through think, "oh hey, this is like X" okay, but I don't seek them out.

message 20: by Irena (new)

Irena Pasvinter I wouldn't mind more than one poll from you.:) I've only read a Shakespeare play retelling and a few Greek mythology retellings are also in my TBR.

message 21: by Fred (new)

Fred Jenkins I read retellings occasionally. Usually folklore/fairy tale; you have heard my opinion of most retellers of Greek myths (to quote GBS in Major Barbara, "few of them know Greek, and none of them know anything else").

message 22: by Economondos (new)

Economondos I read lots of stuff and sometimes it turns out to be a retelling. I don't mind, but I don't seek them out. When I look for a fairy tale/myth, it is the original. For example both Tale of Genji and Journey to the West are on my TBR shelf.

message 23: by Nicholas (new)

Nicholas Perez I occasionally read them.

message 24: by Mika (new)

Mika I'm more familiar with the original fairy tales than books that feature re-telling, but I did read some re-tellings. I mainly know about the German ones like The Brothers Grimm 'cause I'm German myself.

message 25: by ~*~Princess Nya Vasiliev~*~ (last edited 17 hours, 54 min ago) (new)

~*~Princess Nya Vasiliev~*~ I voted No. I typically don't read them.. Every now and again maybe.. but I do tend to watch retellings for film, more than reading them, if they're done right.

message 26: by DivaDiane (new)

DivaDiane SM I have read a few retellings, but not a lot.

message 27: by Debbie (last edited 17 hours, 54 min ago) (new)

Debbie I have read retellings, but they are usually in the dark and dangerous bend 😉

message 28: by Anna (new)

Anna Erde All in with whatever project you want to spin for us:)

Laura❄️📚 I read a lot of fairy tale retellings, I’d be very happy to answer some questions for a private poll 😊

message 30: by Mariella (new)

Mariella Taylor I haven't read anything this year specific to what you're looking for, but in the future I would be more than happy to help. :)

Algernon (Darth Anyan) I like retellings, especially is they are outside our Western European canon.
How will you manage a private poll if Goodreads removes direct messaging? I'm asking for a friend! smiley face

message 32: by Kati (new)

Kati I've read several retellings. Some I have fond memories of and some were completely forgettable. 😁

Amanda (needs a nap) It really depends. I’ll look into a retelling of a fairytale/legend/myth if if it sounds interesting, or if I’m intrigued by how the author is promising to capture the characters/story. I’ll bite.

message 34: by Mar (new)

Mar I do read retellings but I tend to read only queer retellings.

message 35: by Jenni (new)

Jenni I rarely read them, but do if needed. I am happy to help you with your project.

message 36: by Mir (new)

Mir Mar wrote: "I do read retellings but I tend to read only queer retellings."

Fairytale retellings are about the only straight fictions I still read!
And only if they're clearly not insipid "fairytale romance".
...actually I guess it's basically just T Kingfisher at this point.

message 37: by Lynn (new)

Lynn I have read lots of Beauty an the Beast retellings.

message 38: by Barbara (new)

Barbara Erin Craig's Small Favors, and Wicked by Gregory Whatshisface both convinced me of the potential of retellings. I'm sure they are not all created equal, but I loved both of those.

message 39: by Joe (new)

Joe Krakovsky I wouldn't mind reading one, but can't guarantee that I would like it.

message 40: by Michelle (new)

Michelle I don't read retellings, and you're not an annoying poller 😁

message 41: by Michcella (new)

Michcella Tiscornia I do read them occasionally! I've recently read all of Elizabeth Lim's original books and they are all retellings!

Persephone's Pomegranate Can I go with the third option 😂
