It was hard to find people to talk to about books before GRs. I hung out on online forums and I was in romance novel Yahoo groups, but not nearly as user-friendly as GRs.

Because of GRs I've introduced a whole group of friends at work to reading, plus I've read loads of books I wouldn't even have known about if it wasn't for GRs.
Thanks to GR I can finally talk about OTHER books that don't fall into "accepted" categories. I do have family and friends around that I can talk with, but not all the books I read!
I'm in a couple of real life book clubs. I also talk books with a bunch of folks. My neighbor is the one who turned me on to GR. Definitely a bonus.
Good Reads is the best place for finding others with the same reading tastes as mine. I discuss some books with my husband, but he's not the reader that I am. Love Good Reads!
I don't have 'live' reader friends, so for me, goodreads is my main source of conversation when it comes to books.
I belong to a few book groups on Live Journal, but no one really did any talking about the books. It was mainly a 'I read this' kind of thing when barely any interaction. GoodReads is so much better, I recommend it to all the readers I know.
I read romances, which my associates disdain, so I really didn't have anywhere else to discuss the books *I* liked to read. That is why I like goodreads so much---there is something for everyone! Of course, my TBR pile has never been so big before, either, but that is a good thing, right?
I wasn't much of an internet user before GRs. I played a few games but nothing else. No one that I know is a reader so discussing books (any books) was out of the question. GRs is a great site for serious discussions and interaction with other readers.I was curtailing my book buying to about $25 a month but since GRs that has totally gone to hell. And my TBR pile is completely out of control. In my one bedroom apartment I have 9 bookcases and 1500 books! Thanks GRs for making my life complete.
Before GRs I never knew how many books I read now I know exactly how bad my habit really is. I guess that's a good thing. :)
I love being able to discuss books on-line as well as with my family and friends. Goodreads is a great place to find new authors and series to read. I also love being able to track the books that I've read.
Before Goodreads, I had only a couple friends to talk to about books. And, even then, they didn't really read the same stuff I did, so we could only talk about the books we had in common. That's why I'm so glad my friend told me about this site. I practically love my life on Goodreads, LOL :D
Before Goodreads, I didn't really have anyone to talk to about books and I also wasn't really in the "know" about what books were coming out, etc. I love Goodreads!
I have a few friends I can talk to about books, but none of them read nearly as much as I do (and there are people here on GR who read way more than I do, so now I know how my friends feel ;o)).
I don't have any "real" friends that want to dissect and/or discuss books the way I do. Even if I lend a book to a friend and then ask "So, what did you think" I'll usually get "It was okay" which is so frustrating. Love it here though, I'm not alone anymore, people are crazy like me.
Before GR I used to read a couple of books a month and that was OK because I had no one to talk about them. My three friends who like to read... I'm sure their books are super good and well written, but I find them boring! In GR I've found people who like what I do and can give me advise on what to read next, and everybody is so nice!
Only downside... my TBR list is out of control.
I didn't have any trouble talking to people about books (I work in a public library after all). However, I had no one to talk to about romance books... most of my colleagues thinking that romance isn't a viable "read."And yes my TBR mountain too is completely out of control. Mostly cos I keep buying books and then I spend all my time reading library books instead!
I have plenty of friends to talk about mainstream books with but no one to discuss romance novels with. None of my friends (and I do mean none) read romance novels. Thank you goodreads!
I'm a librarian, so I live books. A co-worker told me about this site and I've become obsessed. I love that I can talk about Teen books for me, children's books for work and for my little one and find information about adult books for patrons.
I had nobody to talk to, and this is so sad! I joined when I was about 13.. or was it last year? Anyway, that is when I have read some beautoful books that I felt very eager to talk about with somebody. But there was nobody to help me. My parents don't really have time to read anymore because they work and have no patiene. And their read slower. My auntes might be reading but not books that I like or heard about. Romance and creepy stuff. But the thing is, even my friends, even the couple who did read, did not want to talk about it. I felt so bad. I thought I was a geek, because I was the only one who liked books. Then I join gifted class and exapceted everybody else to be just like me, but even then none reads except for hard-fantasy book and scifi which I really hate. So then I came here, and Hallelujah. But I still wanna talk more openly..
Before Goodreads, I have a few random friends I can discuss books with, but not often enough. I subscribed to a girl on YouTube and she recommended this website. I adore it. I love how you can rate books. I find myself rating other things besides books because of this website.:)
