Donna I voted for To Reign in Hell because I like Brust but haven't gotten around to that one yet. American Gods would also be good, but I've read it before.

The only other thing on the list I've read was The Lightning Thief, but wasn't too crazy about that one - I think it was aimed at a bit younger audience than the YA I typically read.

message 2: by Hollis (new)

Hollis Williams American Gods again. I really should read that..

message 3: by ♥Xeni♥ (new)

♥Xeni♥ For me, Mythago Wood seems to be the most interesting. Enough mix of of fantasy with real world to make it seem plausible but not so much that I'd be irritated or bored with the story.

message 4: by Cindy (new)

Cindy I've read Lightning Thief, Eon, Alchlymst, and I started American Gods but didn't get far with it.

Eon was the most interesting one of the 3 YAs I've read. It was different from the others and brought a different "myth" views.

message 5: by Minglis (new)

Minglis time to see what all the fuss is about with american gods.

message 6: by Chris (new)

Chris Bryant Please, anything but American Gods. I couldn't make myself finish it no matter how hard I tried.

message 7: by Jayme (new)

Jayme Mythago Wood is sitting on my nightstand, so that made it easy!

message 8: by Julia (new)

Julia I voted for All the Windwracked Stars, because I *love* the Elizabeth Bear I've so far read.

I've wanted to read, own & haven't gotten around to yet Mythago Wood, To Reign in Hell and The Lightning Thief -- though I think I'm less interested in this one.

I've read and loved and would happily reread American Gods.

message 9: by Michelle (new)

Michelle 'american gods' and 'to reign in hell' are both very good, but i was with Donna on 'percy jackson' - it's pretty crappy.

message 10: by Ami (new)

Ami We've already discussed a few Neil Gaiman books- Preludes and Nocturnes, the Graveyard Book, and Good Omens- in the past few months. I realize a lot of people have read American Gods, and I plan to. But fan or not, we should try and have some variety for our discussions.

message 11: by Ryan (new)

Ryan I'm with Ami. American Gods is great, but the readings have been very Gaiman heavy in recent days.

message 12: by Karina (new)

Karina Anything but American Gods. I've read it once, and it was boring the first time.

message 13: by Alan (new)

Alan I haven't read much Gaiman, but what I've read read has made me a fan so I voted AG.

I've tried Brust and it left me underwhelmed to say the least.

Robert Holdstock would have been my other choice. I've never read him before but Mythago Woods has been on my 'to-read' list for awhile.

message 14: by Ami (new)

Ami I'm voting Eon. The Asian flavor is something different. And I like dragons. Plus, the transvestites, eunuchs, and cross dressers would give us plenty to talk about.

message 15: by Brad (last edited Jun 02, 2010 06:58AM) (new)

Brad I think that reading American Gods will make Neil Gaiman our most covered author here in the group....

...I just double checked and it will actually tie him with Ursula LeGuin. This could be a month of our most loved authors on here...

...I was wrong again. Gaiman will be at 5, I missed Good Omens, putting him ahead of LeGuin who's at 4.

message 16: by Jayme (new)

Jayme Cool, I love both those authors! And in that order too.

message 17: by Lara Amber (new)

Lara Amber Since American Gods was so clearly winning I already started reading it.

message 18: by Mariah (new)

Mariah Have already read American Gods but would enjoy discussing it.

message 19: by Mariah (last edited Jun 03, 2010 01:54PM) (new)

Mariah Chris wrote: "Please, anything but American Gods. I couldn't make myself finish it no matter how hard I tried."

I took a long time to get thru it- was rather slow, got more interesting in the end tho kinda confusing.
I think it's more of an "idea" book than a "well-thought out plot" book.

message 20: by Donna (new)

Donna Hatch I can see I need to get busy since the only one on this list I've read is the Alchemyst.

message 21: by Mariah (new)

Mariah Don't feel bad- I haven't heard of half of them either.

message 22: by Michelle (new)

Michelle Eon: Dragoneye Reborn is actually a REALLY good book

message 23: by Ami (new)

Ami Michelle wrote: "Eon: Dragoneye Reborn is actually a REALLY good book"

I enjoyed it also, and I'm waiting for the rest of the story- supposed to be out in 2011.

Christiane Hollis wrote: "American Gods again. I really should read that.."

It is a wonderful novel! The mythology is expertly integrated in the plot, dialogue sounds realistic, and your imagination simply soars freely and avidly throughout the novel.
After reading this novel, I simply had to go ahead and read all of the Neil Gaiman's novels slightly related to the characters in American Gods.

message 26: by Tina (new)

Tina Oh, I missed the poll..If I knew I would have given my vote to Mythago wood. An wonderful novel.
