I am writing my first book and it's called Johnny Goodguy and it's about growing up in a home of domestic violent and alcoholism and some of the stuff I went thru as a kid and how I was able to not let those events define me in life. I'm 52 and I want to share my story and hopefully inspire someone going thru that and just tell my story. What genre would you recommend I put it under?

Perhaps the genre of Memoir would best suit your book. Only you can give the first person power of experience such stories need. Read some of Rick Bragg's work. A recent memoir by a physician felled by cancer also made best seller lists. The genre does require honesty, good crafting, and a sense of overcoming, or learning and personal growth. I'd also suggest a more detailed title...(a good book title should hint at what the book's about) i.e. Johnny Goodguy, A Survivor's Story. I'm sure you can come up with better. Best wishes, and keep writing!
