In The Distance Between Us, Xander or Marcus, in By Your side, Jeff or Dex... Was it like this for you or is it just something you do to make it more interesting? I love your books! Kasie West Thanks for reading my books! Yes, that is the case in a lot of my books. I think in contemporary especially, plots involve emotional conflict. When the book is a romance, many times that conflict involves choosing a love interest. I think most people in real life have relationships with lots of different people and each of those relationships are at various stages of development. So, I like to represent that in my books. A girl can have many friends that are guys and some of those friendships evolve into more and some fizzle and become distant and some remain just friendships. So in that respect, yes, I did have guy friendships in my life and sometimes I was trying to choose if any of those guy friendships I wanted to be more than just a friendship and sometimes when I wanted them to be more, the guy didn't. Sometimes just the opposite. Writing contemporary romance is all about balancing all the different relationships/friendships a character has in her life.
