I loved the fact that Maisie was able to attend school at a time when it was an almost unobtainable goal for women. I felt I was really lacking details from that period. Did she ever guest lecture or go back for a reunion?
Jacqueline Winspear
Jennifer, Reunions were never a big thing in the UK, though they have recently become so. Maisie's best friend from Girton was Priscilla, and they have an enduring friendship. I have never been to any kind of reunion in my life, though I am very close to my best friend at school, whom I have known since the age of 11. I am also close to my best friend from college, and my roommate from the time I embarked upon my first job.And regarding Maisie's education, sometimes as a writer you cannot go into all the details - the editors would strike through in big red lines with a note to move the plot along! But remember, too, that Maisie's education was curtailed by the war, though she returned later to complete her studies. It has been enough to say that she kept to herself during that time - remember, she came home from war not only physically wounded, but as shell-shocked as any soldier.

Jacqueline Winspear:
I'm writing a historical novel about a middle aged widow of two teenage sons and a preteen daughter who faces Armistice Day for the first time as well as the first two Christmases (1918 and 1919). Do I have to use the second season of "Downton Abbey" as a sounding to help me write a better historical novel or do I need to read more WWI fiction for my writing historical novels? Thanks a lot!!

I have read all of your novels and find them very entertaining. Maisie Dobbs is a great character, and you have done a very good job structuring this series. My question has to do with reviews. While I enjoy your style of writing, others don't; in particular, I noticed a review from some guy who hated your work, wasn't afraid to say so, and posted a very critical review. What do you do when this happens? Ignore it?
