Hi Mrs. Dickerson! I'm writing an essay for school about an influential author of my choice, and I decided to write about you. I was wondering what kind of influence you want your books to have on your readers, and what kind of message you are trying to communicate through your work? And an unrelated question: What kind of advice do you have for young writers who want to eventually publish?
Melanie Dickerson
Hi, Amanda! The message I try to communicate through my work? I try to entertain with a great story, but I do want my readers to get the message that romance can be noble and godly and emotionally healthy. And I also hope to convey that God is loving and is involved in everyone's life. We can trust Him to guide us and care about us and work all things together for our good, but we also have to seek Him, which includes knowing his Word. As for advice for young writers who want to publish, I would say to do the hard work of learning all about good writing. Gain the skills, practice them, revise and edit, and also learn all you can about publishing. A great way to do that is by reading blog articles and books on writing by successful writers. My favorite writing blog, which has tons of great articles in its archives, is the Seekerville blog, www.seekerville.blogspot.com. I have a whole list of websites and books that I can send to you if you contact me through my website, MelanieDickerson.com.
God bless!

Hi Melanie, I am very much enjoying your YA fairytale Hagenheim series, my favourite of which is The Princess Spy. I wanted to ask if you've heard of the old Irish folk tale about the spoiled princess? I would love to see how you would put your own spin on it. It's called The Haughty Princess by Patrick Kennedy. The basic story is very lovely, one of my favourite folktales and a real lesson in character. :)

What would you say is the most important thing about being a writer and what you like most about it? I just find that sometimes maybe my aspiration to be on the bestseller list is not the most important thing and I know it isn't, but I've just always wanted people to want to read my writing. What do you think?

Hi Melanie, I love your books. I have all of them except for the two newest ones. I love writing fantasy and am trying my hand at writing historical fiction. Most of what I write is for young adults. I was wondering if you have any tips for writing historical fiction? And for writing in general? Thanks, Caroline
