Who was my paternal grandmother, did she actually exist? Her birth is not recorded anywhere. My sister-in-law, who is the family historian, eventually gave up trying to track down any record of her birth or in any Online Census under the name we knew her by. We know when she died and we have her death certificate, but why can't we find any record of her birth? I can only assume she was a fugitive from the law and changed her name under suspicious, but thrilling, circumstances!
