Goodreads asked Michael Gallagher:

What mystery in your own life could be a plot for a book?

Michael Gallagher One morning about six months ago, I opened my front door only to find a doormat sitting there where no doormat had sat before. It was semi-circular in shape, made from coconut fibres, neither very new nor very old, slightly worn, but only slightly. I was shocked: inside my apartment everything seemed familiar; outside, everything appeared to have changed. I live in a tower block, and my immediate thought was that this was the handiwork of my neighbour’s two children. I left it where it was, expecting its rightful owner to come and retrieve it; it was, after all, quite distinctive in its own way. Days passed—weeks—and still it sat there unclaimed. I eventually came up with a theory: some kind person who’d moved out of the block, having no further use for it, had found it a new home. In the dead of night. As silent as a thief. Of course that was the explanation. What else could it be? #MysteryWeek
