Hi Will. I have just recently read your book, and wish I had discovered it earlier. My daughter, who, like me, was an avid reader, was diagnosed with cancer in 2011 and died in 2015, aged 33. If I had read your book it would have helped some of our conversations...I did try to take the route of 'would you like to talk about how you feel?' Your book has a strong, relevant message about dying.

Hi Ellen. Thank you for writing me and for sharing something of your life. I'm so very sorry to hear that your daughter died of cancer so recently, and so very young. It means a lot to me to know that my book resonated with you. If it's not too painful or difficult, I would be very interested to know some of the books your daughter most loved, and some of the ones that have been most meaningful to you. Sending you my warmest best wishes, Will

I recognized the description of Chris Maxey in the short review in "The New Yorker" of WE SHOULD NOT BE FRIENDS. Your memoir is about Maxey who started Island School? I look forward to reading your memoir, as my son was there in Fall 2007 when Eleuthera took an almost direct hit from Hurricane Noel. The students had so much respect for (combined with a bit of fear of) Maxey. Island School was life-changing for Seth.

Hello Will! This is Patti from Saratoga not Sarasota! Lol. I lost access to my email, so I have not been able to email you. I have just purchased "Books for Living" and am starting it this evening. I read the introduction last evening, and am already relating so much to your thinking. I am really looking forward to this read. Happy to connect here so not to lose touch?
