Goodreads asked Cynthia Harrison:

How do you deal with writer’s block?

Cynthia Harrison I give myself permission to take a writing break and I write morning pages which are like diary entries and never meant to be shared. In fact I fill notebooks and throw them away when I finish one. Nobody needs to see that mess inside my head spilled onto the page. But somehow doing morning pages eventually frees up whatever was bottled inside. I also take Artist Dates (yes I am channeling Julia Cameron). This winter I gave myself permission to not work on a challenging book for three months. I did morning pages and artist dates and after six weeks I eagerly went back to my manuscript with fresh plot ideas.
