Goodreads asked Cardyn Brooks:

What books are on your summer reading list this year?

Cardyn Brooks Any and all titles from my go-to authors like Frankie Y. Bailey, Linda Howard, and M.L. Buchman with fingers crossed that Sandra Kitt, Crystal Hubbard, Sugar Jamison, and Meljean Brook will soon release new titles. Will also start reading works by Selena Haskins. Oh, and it feels like the latest Berger and Mitry mystery is overdue from David Handler.

Books with Girl or Girls in the title, when the story actually features an adult woman or women are on my permanent will-not-read list. Achieving womanhood is a rite of passage worth celebrating and respecting, not undercutting by constantly looking backward with longing for the finite period of chronological youth. I blame this iteration of girlhood obsession at the expense of womanhood on the phenomenal success of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo combined with the effective marketing application of the keyword search function on the everything store's site. [Some shades of bitter author envy? Oh, yes. Unflattering, yet true.:-) Support for the idea that appreciation for the gifts of girlhood need not mutually exclude enthusiasm for womanhood and its benefits also informs my decision.]

Wishing everyone happy reading year-round!
