Lonely Reader
Lonely Reader asked Lurlene McDaniel:

why is there always a dying/sick person in most of your books?

Lurlene McDaniel Years ago this kind of story became my trademark. My readers asked for more and so I wrote more. The books sold in the millions. I raised a child with Type 1 diabetes and saw first hand how sick kids struggled to be "normal" I try to show this in my stories. Also, sick kids could "see" themselves in books, and appreciated stories that focused on their illnesses. My new books still contain this element, but in the Windemere series, I'm telling a broader story, with more characters.
