Where did you find inspiration for Stoker and his brothers' names? They are delightful!
Deanna Raybourn
What a great question! Years ago I came across the name Revelstoke and tucked it away, thinking it would be fabulous for a character. When I was trying to find just the right name for Stoker--and I went through MANY--I remembered it, but it seemed too formal for him. Then I recalled that Deborah Mitford, the late Duchess of Devonshire, had a son nicknamed Stoker, and everything clicked into place.
Rupert is a German name but seemed to suit Stoker's second brother; it feels very "establishment" without being common which fits his character. The other two brothers demanded more distinctive names. The eldest, Tiberius, is a viscount, very commanding and masterful, so a Roman emperor's name seemed just the thing. It's also a tiny nod to Star Trek since Captain Kirk's middle name is Tiberius, but no one has caught that yet.
The youngest Templeton-Vane son, Merryweather, is often called Merry by his friends, and it fits. He's a reluctant vicar, boyishly charming and forthright, and a little awkward. He's a bit of a puppy.
Thanks for asking--this was fun!

I was just curious as to how Veronica Speedwell came to be. Where did the inspiration for her come from? She is one of my favorite fictional characters, and I wanted to thank you (as nerdy as it may sound) for creating characters I actually miss when I'm not reading! I'm always telling my husband about Veronica and Stoker's adventures and exchanges!
