What were things that inspired you the most to write your book? What do you want your readers to take away from it?

Rhiannon Thomas The idea for A Wicked Thing came to me while Twilight was still the big thing in YA, and I was upset by how many insta-love, fated to be together, creepy-stalker-is-romantic stories I was seeing. I really wanted to write a story that explored the idea of fated insta-love, and just how weird and uncomfortable it would be to actually be told, “Hey, this guy you’ve never met is your true love.” That set me thinking about Sleeping Beauty, which in turn got me thinking about all the other weirdness in that story, from the possibility of sleeping away a hundred years to a fairy cursing a newborn baby because she wasn’t invited to a party. The more I thought about it, the more I wanted to explore all these things and see what would happen after Sleeping Beauty woke up.

And other things that inspired the story… well, there’s a lot. Disney movies (especially Tangled). Game of Thrones. The Civil Wars and Florence + the Machine. Reading too much vitriol against Sansa Stark. A life-long obsession with fairy tales. The sexy rebels trope. Dragon Age. And more influential YA novels than I can count.

As for what I want readers to take away from it, most of all, I hope they enjoy it! I don’t think it’s a writer’s place to tell a reader what they should get from a novel (the author is dead, and all that), so I just hope that readers find something to like or relate to in the story. :)
