I absolutely adored BURIED HEART as it is a wrenching, nuanced exploration of interracial conflict (and Jes/Kal *swoons*)! Will you continue writing YA after the final Court of Fives novella? Thank you! <3
Kate Elliott
Thank you SO MUCH. I’m so glad you enjoyed it. And I’m thrilled you loved the Jes/Kal relationship: I wanted to write a love story in which the obstacles weren’t their feelings or misunderstandings but the world around them and the serious barriers they have to overcome.
I do hope to continue writing YA. While I did write a trilogy and the two companion novellas for Court of Fives, I do have one more novella I would like to write set in the world, the story of what happens to Talon (since her story is left hanging).
As for other YA projects, I am slowly developing the world and characters and plot for a duology that is a portal fantasy and a mother/daughter story. I don’t know when I will write the first draft as I have other commitments currently, specifically my genderbent Alexander the Great as space opera trilogy for Tor Books (2019) as well as the rest of the Black Wolves epic fantasy trilogy.

Kate Elliott:
I just read "Black Wolves", I am catching up on reviews for the Spirit Gate trilogy. Here's the actual question. When I read Traitors' Gate, I though you might have been inspired in part by then current American politics, but then later read that it and "Black Wolves" are all a prequel to a yet-to-written trilogy. So... to what extent do current affairs influence your writing when you already have a plot in mind?

I just want to tell you how much I'm enjoying your Crown of Stars series. I'm on volume four, Child of Flame. The story is incredibly engaging and I've become so invested in the characters. You have done a wonderful job of creating this very "round" world where you see events from so many different angles. There is no single answer for anything. Is the series still in print or will it be reprinted?

I've just began to read Bk 1 of this series and was hoping my library have the other 2! I was sad to to be told they were not published --- could you not find another publisher for the remainder of this series? Baen books or whoever? - I really like bk 1 (I'm 83 years old and SF is my favourite reading matter)
