How do you get inspired to write?

Felicity Price Most of my inspiration comes from real life, especially my own life. Apart from one book, though, which was memoir dressed up as fiction, none of my novels have been about me. The main characters have had a few things in common with me, but they've also had lots of fictional elements, some based on people I know, and some from observation of strangers. When I know what I want to write about, though, I have to talk very sternly to myself to actually sit down and get on with it. It's not until I'm really into the story that I'm driven to write, day and night, until it's all down on paper.
