Goodreads asked Douglas L. Wilson:

How do you deal with writer’s block?

Douglas L. Wilson I walk away from the work for a little while. Staring at a blank or half written page only serves to fuel the block for me. Getting my mind on something else will usually clear things up, but not always. In extreme cases, those times where the story refuses to move, I go back and change something, a character, or a plot line. Sometimes a story gets stuck in the mud because it was never going anywhere to begin with.
