Katie asked Jacob M. Appel:

Which of your books to you wish a reader new to your writings read first? Do you think first impressions are important in the reader/writer equation?

Jacob M. Appel First impressions do matter -- both in life and in books. That's why I always make clear on a first date that I'm heir to a large banking fortune and the crown of a small European nation.

I think the most accessible of my books are Einstein's Beach House and The Magic Laundry. So either is a good introduction to my work. I have many free copes of the former and a few of the latter that I'm glad to distribute to potential readers interested in writing a goodreads, amazon and/or librarything review. Anyone interested should email me at jacobmappel@gmail.com (with either a request for a PDF or a mailing address with zip code for a paperback.) My best works, such as the forthcoming novel, Millard Salter's Last Day, are far more challenging to many readers.... The trick is to rope people in, sort of like the way you slowly raise the temperature to boil a frog, assuming you're the sort of person who boils frogs....
