Hallo, Mrs. Lowry! I think my family's copy of "Goonie Bird Greene" is still in my mother's car. I read it much when I was little! So, on with le questions. What do you think about the recent dystopians swimming around in the YA market? Is it neat to see the influx of works with the same genre as some of yours? Yes, i think THE GIVER falls into that category. As for the genre at the current time...too many of them Time to move on. New trend, please!

I'm assuming that you wrote the dystopian Giver trilogy in reaction to your concerns about the direction you saw for our society. In the intervening two decades we have seen significant social changes with expansion of the internet, the further globalization, political upheaval and economic upheaval. Is society moving toward the vision you described or driftinf toward different but equally concerning directions?

How many publishers did you send your manuscript to before it was accepted? How old were you when you started writing? Do you have any advice for young writers?
