Hi Lois, I love all your books but I think the first book I read by you was Rabble Starkey. Where did this character come from and did you get any resistance from your publishers for writing about such a young teen mom? Thanks!

No, no resistance from my publisher or from the critics. I loved writing this book and it is good to hear it mentioned after all these years. I love that the young mother started out with so little, and so many obstacles, but by the end of the book was on her way to a bright future.

What inspired you to become a writer? Was it, that you love to read and wanted to write as well or, you had an extraordinary imagination(which you do) and had to put your thoughts down on paper? Please I would love to know! I love your books especially the giver and I love your writing style.

Lois, I am a fan of The Giver, I was a media specialist for the last 17 years of my 40 year teaching career and my question is this: Do you feel that many of the ideas from your book have been used in the latest books for YA readers, such as, Stefanie Collins, the Hunger Games? I recognize many similarities, does that offend you or are you honored by their works?
