Lois Lowry:
Oh glory be! I get to ask my favorite author a question. (This is a Giver question) Why was there a road between all of the cities? When Jonas was riding to elsewhere, there was a long road. Why did it exist, and why was it so unmaintaned? Who would create a road like that?

IN the book, the road gave out after a while. and he was travelling in uncharted territory. Same in the movie.

You published The Giver in the 1993, but Son wasn't published until 2012. Did you always have an idea of where you were going with the story, or did it begin to take shape as you wrote? I am a middle school teacher, and we will be studying The Giver this fall. We will also be talking a lot about the writing process. I would love to share with my students the process that unfolded over two decades.

I have been using your books to help get reluctant readers interested in reading. The Giver always prompts many interesting discussions. We are currently working on a letter writing unit because I feel that it is fast becoming a lost art. I was wondering if you have pm a fan mail address my students could write. It would be great practice for them and they would love to tell you how much they enjoy your books.

How do you feel about the movie being so different from the book in so many aspects? (Especially the age difference.) The fact that they were twelve was so intriguing to me in your book because of how young and vulnerable they were. I was a little disappointed that they changed so much of your original story that made it so defining.
