Did you always want to write a sequel to The Giver, or did you originally intend to have The Giver as a stand-alone book?

Lois Lowry I didn't contemplate sequels...I prefer calling them companion books...until much later.

In the book The Giver, Jonas was twelve years old but in the movie, the actor that portrays him is much older. I haven't watched the movie but in your opinion, does that change the story in any way?

That's no possible that the whole community are colourless, right? I mean the melanin, haemoglobin and carotene, which determine the skin colour--rosy cheeks, pale appearence, yellowish tone on the skin..they can't just make these pigments disappear without affecting body functions, right? HOW does colour absent from their lives?
