Goodreads asked Jaycee Weaver:

How do you get inspired to write?

Jaycee Weaver I like to explore alternate paths. As a kid, I loved those Choose-Your-Own-Adventure books (though I always managed to die?!). When I start thinking of characters in my head, I like to explore all of the rabbit trails and avenues of possibility that might unfurl as they make different choices. As a writer, I get to rewrite scenes that may not have worked out in the real lives of people I know. It's fun to imagine if we'd had the nerve to speak up, or thought of that great comeback, or if we'd run into so-and-so again, what would we have said or done? How might we have wanted that scene to play out? Would it have worked in real life, or were we better off having had things play out the way they did? The What If game is always fun to play if it's approached from a perspective of open-possibilities and not as a place of wishful thinking we get trapped in--that's just not healthy. But played in the right context, it's definitely fun.
