Hi Gabrielle, thank you so much for writing Young Jane Young. I LOVED it. Having said that, I am curious why Aviva doesn't confront Jorge about the baby or (and) reveal who the father is to her daughter. If it were the Congressman, I wouldnt have been surprised by her reticence. What's the rationale for this scenario?

(view spoiler)[Thank you for writing and I'm so glad you enjoyed the book. I think the general answer to this question is that people are complicated. The specific reason Aviva doesn't confront Jorge, in my mind, is because she doesn't want him in her life. She wants no connection to the congressman (or anyone in Florida) and Jorge is most definitely in the congressman's inner circle. Another reason is that it was a one-night-stand, and Aviva wants the baby, but she feels no particular connection to Jorge. I think, on some level, she would feel guilty asking for his help, and she has no desire for his approval. She feels strongly that having the baby is HER choice. The final reason is that Aviva is still VERY YOUNG when she makes this decision. Because she is young, I think she fails to conceive of the reality that some day, her daughter will grow up, and her daughter will have questions. (hide spoiler)]

I’m enjoying the book but I noticed on page 147 Donkey Kong ia described as a ‘little Japanese Italian plumber’ - but that’s Mario, not Donkey Kong. I’m wondering if that was on purpose to make us pause or if you never played Donkey Kong and hence why the confusion? :)

AJ's favorite short story is "What We Talk About When We Talk About Love" I love this story myself because it raises the kinds of deep, philosophical questions that intrigue me -- particularly the ineffable nature of love. I have to know -- has this story always been his favorite? Or did it become his favorite through his experiences with the different types of love he finds in your book?
