What was your inspiration to writing "Rebel of the Sands"? I loved it!

Thanks so much! I'm so pleased that you enjoyed REBEL! There were a lot of different things that came together in my brain to form REBEL, but the main one came from an article I read online that made the case that women should not wield the same weapons as men in fantasy novels because "women just don't have the same physical strength." Cue my eye roll and my desire to write a book where a girl wielded a weapon that requires no strength. Thus was born the Girl with the Gun/The Blue Eyed Bandit/Amani. And I built the rest of the story out from her.

I discovered your book "Rebel of the Sands" today, read it in one sitting, and fell in love. Your writing style is beautiful and your characters felt so real - and this is everything I admire in a writer. So I was wondering, what do you think makes a book good? I have recently written a novel, and being a 14 yr old, I'm not really sure what I'm doing, but I would like to know what you think makes a book good!

I'm doing a report on you so here are a few questions: Do you have a spouse? Where were you born? (city and state) Any pets? What college(s) did you attend? Title of the first book you've ever had published? date of publications? Any awards? (if so, how many and what type) and any 13 additional facts. By the way, I love your books!

Hello! I loved Rebel of the Sands, and I'm hoping to finish Traitor to the Throne shortly, but I noticed something odd about one of the festivals that you mentioned. The festival was called Auranzab. One of my favorite books as a kid was the story of Jahanara, Princess of Princesses. Her brother (who ended up overthrowing his emperor father) was named Aurangzeb. Is there a connection between the two?
