I just finished The Diplomat's Daughter and I loved it! I'm from Milwaukee so I was intrigued by your talking about a Hitler Youth camp and other connections to the area. Is this a complete work of fiction or is there quite a bit of historical facts throughout? I was unaware of internment camps being in other places in the US and not just the NW USA. Thank you for a wonderfully written book!

I'm so glad you enjoyed the book! Sorry my answer on this is so late and thank you for your insightful question. The book is a work of fiction but there are a lot of real historical facts peppered in. There was indeed a Hitler youth camp in Wisconsin (Grafton to be exact) and a Nazi party in the US called The Bund. Here is an interesting link that helped me!

First off I'm wondering how you came up with River Hills as the home of Christian?I live in Mequon, WI, the neighboring suburb of River Hills. I'm wondering how much of the novel is based on facts? The number of Jews who fled to Shanghai, how many German Americans in the internment camp, etc???
