So the Wisdoms Graves books will be connecting the Daniel Faust, Harmony Black and Revanche Cycle series together? Well, while I prepare for my literary stretches, did you write the three series together with the intention of connecting them?
Craig Schaefer
Yes, but not all at once. I introduced Harmony in the Faust books with the general idea of spinning her off into her own series at some point. When my current publisher, 47North, approached me about doing a series for them, I pitched it and they said yes. Meanwhile, about halfway into the Revanche Cycle, I got a lot of positive messages about Nessa and Mari and was having a blast writing about them. I don’t recall if I’d introduced the concept of the First Story reincarnations in the Faust series at that point, but I had at least plotted it out in my series bible, and realized they’d be a perfect setup for a modern-day trilogy. I started laying the groundwork, and a few years later, here we are.
(The aforementioned series bible has a lot of detail that hasn’t reached the page yet and may not for years. I’m not a big fan of Lost/Battlestar Galactica-style “make it up as you go along” plotting; if somebody in my books seems to have a big master plan…they really do have a plan. Or often, I’ll have two or three options laid out, and I’ll go with the one that makes the most sense and has the biggest emotional impact when the time comes to reveal it.)

Curse you and your talented mind! I've devoured the Faust books and I'm intending to catching up on Miss Black as I only read books one and two a while back. No doubt you get this constantly but I will say it again: Your work is a delight to read, a thrill to enjoy and a work of boundless quality. Bravo. My question, finally, is thus: Will Daniels past come into play with later books?
