Jim Supplee
Jim Supplee asked Sally Ann Sims:

I was wondering where you got the idea for Yellow Sky? You seemed to know coastal Rhode island really well.

Sally Ann Sims My parents grew up in Rhode Island. Decades later, I splashed in the surf of Misquamicut Beach during childhood summers. In 2010, I was walking on Napatree Point, doing research on another project, when I was struck by the foreboding and mysterious concrete fort bunker at the end of the point. I also wondered about the stories I'd heard of folks clinging to the roofs of their houses that blew into Little Narragansett Bay during the Hurricane of 1938. More wondering and research led me to write Yellow Sky, Emerald Sea to coincide with the 80th anniversary of the Hurricane of 1938. I still marvel at the stories of loss, strength, and survival that emerged from the wreckage of that unexpected storm.
