Goodreads asked Sarah Miller Beebe:

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

Sarah Miller Beebe I first began thinking about a book of cases when I was a U.S. Government analyst and manager. This experience, including an assignment as Director for Russia on the White House National Security Council staff, drove home the need for rigorous and effective approaches to intelligence analysis. I have to admit that I mulled the idea for several years and only hit the go button when I realized that students really had nothing to help them bridge the gap between theory and practice. The case book, exercises, and Instructor Materials (a separate, book-length manual that is available *for free* from the publisher) are meant to fill an important gap not only for students, but also for practitioners.
