Goodreads asked Omayra Vélez:

What’s the best thing about being a writer?

Omayra Vélez I've been a teacher, a scientist, an Army Officer, and now I have the time to write. The best thing is the freedom to take all these stories that I've had in my head for all those years and finally being able to give them life. I've never been a mother, but now as a writer, it is like I am giving birth to a new creation. I paint, but that is not as fulfilling as writing a book for me. When I create a story, I am not only creating a world, but the characters come alive and with them their past and how they made decisions to bring them to the point to interact within my story. I am the one that knows the entire thing, and I get to pick and chose what goes in the book and many times it gets overwhelming because I have several stories in my head at the same time. But I am happy I can be a writer full time now. I love being a writer. It is all I want to do now.
