Anita Elder
Anita Elder asked Jodi Taylor:

Love your books, Jodi, and eagerly awaiting the next one! Question...throughout the books, you allude to a big war that happened in the U.S. and borders closing. It's been driving some of us in our book group crazy, since you haven't yet revealed why it's even important to the stories. Do you have any plans to elaborate on that event in the next or future book?

Jodi Taylor No, I don't really have any plans to elaborate. When I wrote the first book I wanted to make clear it was set in a time and place that wasn't quite here and wasn't quite now. I sat down and tried to think of the most unlikely scenarios I could. I talked about the sudden and acrimonious break up of the EU (!) and some sort of cataclysm that had fundamentally altered the US. I'm a child of the cold war and so the mention of a wall seemed particularly appropriate. I deliberately kept everything vague because I was setting the scene, rather than contributing to the story. Now, of course, everyone thinks I really do have a pod and have visited the future. I denied it, of course, and then wrote 'White Silence,' in which the world is enveloped in angry snow. Unfortunately, this has been the worst winter in the UK for quite some time and now everyone thinks I can foresee the future. Hope this answers your question.
