What’s the best thing about being a writer?

Sharleen Nelson The best thing about being a writer is the same as being a reader--the ability to get lost in characters and their adventures; in other times and places and planets and worlds. As a child, I entertained myself with the stories in my head, riding around endlessly on my bicycle listening to characters chat back and forth with each other, not wanting to stop until I knew how the story would end. When I am writing, I feel the characters joy and pain. Some scenes are so intense that afterward, I feel mentally exhausted. Yet, it is such a gratifying, immersive experience.
