Hey, Megan! So I’m becoming really interested in noir film and literature (I watched In a Lonely Place recently!) and I wanted to know what are your favorite noir elements or archetypes?

Great question! I think I love the glamour and mystery endemic to noir--a dark glamour, to be sure, but a glamour nonetheless. The mood is so captivating to me in those books and films--the sense of high stakes, passions run out of control, desire and greed and guilt dominating the characters. The intensity knocks me out. How about you?

Where did you first encounter the dynamism of female relationships that themes your novels? What made you delve into the nuance and duality of them? For me Dare Me was an introduction (as well as Ms Atwood) into the possibility of representing females as multifaceted and complex in lit!

Potentially devastating injuries, cruel helicopter moms and catty, overprivileged girls (and occasionally other genders but more popular with girls) with eating disorders.
