Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

Planaria Price Sitting a bar in Nepenthe, Big Sur, in 2006, I started talking to the woman next to me. Helen Reichmann West told me her mother's incredibly unique Holocaust survival story and 3 months later I flew from LA to Washington DC to interview 90 year old Barbara Reichmann. Her memory was crystal clear, her charm, intelligence and spunk radiated. After 5 days of interviews I flew home to write the first draft, sent it to Helen and Barbara and went back a few months later for more interviews and accuracy checks. I chose to write it for YA because knowledge of the Holocaust is waning or questioned, and this must never, ever be forgotten.
